The bowling season runs from mid-April until Mid-September and members have access to the clubhouse and the green daily throughout this period except when matches or competitions are being played and on Tuesday mornings when maintenance is undertaken. An online booking system is available which will show when the green (or part of it) is being used but it is not essential to book if you want to just turn up and take a chance. The club bar is open in the evening (except Sundays).
Joining the club
Informal approaches to the secretary or any member can be made at any time. Those considering joining are welcome to come along to the club to see the facilities, meet members and for those who have not played before to try it and see. Sets of bowls in varying sizes are available for loan or purchase.
Playing activities
Internal club competitions in a wide variety of formats take place every year and many members enter some or most of these. The club enters teams in the BonAccord Bowling Association Leagues, the Aberdeen and District Ladies Bowling Association and Bowls Scotland competitions. Friendly matches are arranged with other clubs in the city on a home and away basis on a Saturday afternoon and these are an excellent way for those new to the game to take part in a friendly competition.
The green is wholly or partly used on Monday evenings (Gents Hat night), Tuesday and Thursday afternoons (Ladies sessions), Wednesday and Sunday afternoons (open hat session). A number of matches and national competition ties are played on the green and details of these are available on the on-line booking system.
Although it is acceptable to 'turn up and play' provided a rink is available at that time, members are encouraged to use the club booking system and book online - this will show rink availability and a booking will secure that for the session(s) booked. Links to the booking system and guidelines on its use are on the home page.
Social Events
A coffee morning takes place at the start of the season in April and a charity fund raising evening (this year for the RNLI) in the summer.
During the winter a variety of social events take place and usually include a quiz night, a Christmas lunch, a Burns Supper and a talk from a local speaker. Mah Jong is played on Friday afternoons and the Cults Bridge Club play on Monday afternoons.
